Comment for Tuesday, May 7th City Council Meeting - Re: Item H1

Dear City Council -

I am writing to share my 100% support of Item H1 - Provide direction on a proposal to install Flock fixed Automated License Plate Readers citywide. I live in Sharon Heights and am extremely concerned about the increase in burglaries in our neighborhood. It is my understanding that our adjacent sister cities (e.g., Atherton, Palo Alto) have implemented ALPRs which have helped them to solve some of these crimes. Leaving our city without this advanced technology is simply an invitation to criminals that we are the best city to target. With the cost of police officers being so high, and the fact that they are already understaffed, we need to leverage technology to make their jobs easier.

Please dont think I am leaving my safety in the hands of this decision alone. I am so concerned that I have tripled the number of security cameras protecting our house and I have had the police come and do an audit of my property to provide additional suggestions for improving our safety.

We pay tax dollars to support the services of Menlo Park. Please support us by making this very wise investment in our collective safety. I believe all concerns about privacy have been addressed, as well as the significant concern about this data being shared with others outside of MPPD (it will not).

Thank you for considering my opinion.
