TODAY’S NEWS FROM THE MAYOR IN MENLO PARK’S SISTER CITY, GALWAY, IRELAND, a city of approximately 75,000 people, including a major university with ties to Stanford University. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Let's not get complacent ?? So many people are adhering to the guidelines set out, so well done. It's not easy for those cocooning to be isolated from family and friends. It's not easy to tell kids they can't go out and about as normal, it's not easy for everyone who had adapted and changed their daily routine in order to beat this virus. People have lost livelihoods, the ability to meet loved ones and a sense of normality. Unfortunately we have too many still who believe they are untouchable however and that this virus is only a section on the 6.1 news. I am still working so I am on the road travelling to the office early and back in the evening and the difference between this week and last week is frightening. People are out and about more, of that there is no doubt. These restrictions are light compared to mainland Europe and don't go far enough if this past few days is anything to go by. Dr. Holohan confirmed earlier that there is a level of complacency creeping in and the Taoiseach re-confirmed that. To those staying within the 2km radius to exercise, to those cocooning, to those doing their level best to ensure we stop the spread and that Galway remains relatively low in comparison to other counties in terms of confirmed cases I say a huge 'THANK YOU' To those orgaining house parties, flouting the 2km radius measures and sticking two figures up to the guidelines I say 'COP ON' As many people including our good friend Paddy Grant still battle this deadly virus it needs each and every one of us to remain committed to staying the course as long as the medical experts tell us to. Please don't get complacent at this stage. Keep well, stay safe. Received on Thu Apr 23 2020 - 16:14:33 PDT
