Dear City Council, It seems to me that I wrote a similar email to our city council on the last occasion Menlo Park was negotiating with employees. When can we get this right? Menlo Park spends more money to run our city than does almost any other city of our size in the Bay Area. Current costs to finance the police department and to pay city employees are unsustainable. Menlo Park must cut expenditures, possibly by outsourcing police services to the San Mateo Sheriff's Department, by freezing new hires and by refusing to give in to union demands for higher wages. Perhaps you can come up with further ideas. Given the current economic outlook, cutting costs through sensible planning is more important than ever. We have elected you to the city council, and we expect you to do your job and serve the citizenry of our city – not blithely to allow control of the city to fall to those who are paid to work on our behalf. Please take command of the situation and -- as our elected representatives -- serve us. Thank you, nancy barnby, central menlo Received on Mon May 04 2020 - 14:50:31 PDT
