Re: Addendum to previous message regarding Save Menlo Park Green Spaces

Roger and Anne,

You are still able to send your letter to - city.council@menlopark.org to get your voices heard.

Prescription for Health was on KALW radio this morning - talking about the importance of nature in lowering blood pressure and alleviating other health problems. It is imperative to keep Sharon Park a park in its entirety - since it is the only flat walk for the elderly to exercise, appreciate nature, and to use as a Rx for better health. Sharon Heights is comprised of steep hills that are not available for walking to many of our residents. Increasing the resident population of Menlo Park and placing their housing specifically in Sharon park will certainly deter older citizens from using the park. Should all our elderly residents present prescriptions for better health from their doctors to the city council?

The County of San Mateo has developed this program :

What if your doctor prescribed you a walk in the park instead of a pill? Doctors in San Mateo County are giving patients a prescription to spend time outdoors. The Park Rx program is getting patients back to health, by getting them back to nature.

only sent the letter to the clerk because I did not follow instructions!

We started early on zoom and left early. It seemed that at least one or more smart people on the council were making a strong case that the city should have an ordinance that would prohibit taking park land for non-park purposed without a majority vote of the residents.

So it seemed that we were not needed. Hope that is the case.

Not sure what went on tonight. We came in very late and found them talking about the city gymnastics program. Boring !

Read your letter, did you send it to the members of the city council?

Good night,

Subject: Addendum to previous message regarding Save Menlo Park Green Spaces

Please note:
The Menlo Park City Council meeting begins with a closed session before going into the agenda items.
Councilman Mueller's Park Preservation ordinance and ballot measure discussion is scheduled somewhere around 9:15 or 9:30, it is difficult to gauge precisely when it will begin so please be patient, it will occur and your participation is most important.
Sylvia

The Menlo Park City Council meets tomorrow and on their agenda is Councilman Ray Mueller's common sense Park Preservation ordinance and ballot measure that would require a vote of Menlo Park residents to convert a park to any use other than recreation. Below are actions that you can take to prevent cannibalization of our green space:

1- If you haven't submitted an email to the Menlo Park City Council asking them to support the Mueller ordinance and ballot measure, please do so ASAP! Send your message to city.council@menlopark.org

2- Read, sign and pass along our petition to save Burgess Park, Sharon Park, Nealon Park and all other City parks by going to https://www.change.org/p/menlo-park-housing-commission-preserve-menlo-park-s-green-spaces

3- Attend the City Council Meeting where the Park Preservation Measure will be discussed: Tuesday 9/21 at 5pm. Go to www.Zoom.us/join. Then enter the meeting ID 998 8073 4930

4- View the Housing Commission meeting where the possible development of multi-family housing in Sharon Park and Burgess Park will be discussed: Thursday 9/23 at 6:30pm. https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83136198364

We look forward to positive responses from both the Council meeting and the Housing Commission later this week.

Thank you for your support,

Sylvia Dickinson and the Committee to Save Menlo Park Green Spaces
