Menlo Park Council’s housing neurosis.
Regarding affordable housing: I used to say that all housing is affordable — to someone.
Maybe that’s too broad; maybe not fair, but we used to have a redevelopment agency that did succeed in adding to our housing stock until the State of California took over RDA funds (I recall).
But current efforts - Sunset redevelopment, new towers near Linfield Oaks, demonstrate random efforts. Some efforts remind me of the adage No good deed goes unpunished.
The council’s latest idea for building housing in downtown parking lots Cannabilizes our sales tax revenue. (Unless you’re planning and replicating Stanford Shopping Center.)
Some better thinking is required.
