Strong support closing segment of Santa Cruz to support local businesses

Dear Menlo Park City Council - I am writing in support of the proposal to close the segment of Santa Cruz between University and El Camino. This will add immensely in the near term, as it would allow businesses (especially restaurants) to utilize the sidewalks for allowing customers to appropriately observe social distancing while still supporting local businesses. It would also be a nice trial run for the long-term. Some of the nicest times in recent years in Menlo Park are when there are block parties or other downtown segment is closed, as this makes for a wonderful community experience. It would make our downtown more vibrant and supportive of pedestrians. In the current format with inconsistent stop signs and sidewalks that are set back, there are often times where cars can really be dangerous to pedestrians. To summarize: hopefully we can implement this in the near term to help businesses deal with COVID, and then we’ll like it so much that we continue it into perpetuity and make the downtown area nicer and safer for pedestrians and families. Thanks for your consideration. Best Regards, Neil _____________________________ Neil C.
