Dear Menlo Park City Council, We are the kind of people who usually go with the flow and very rarely voice our concerns. But we were alarmed when we heard that the city manager's office is considering closing Menlo Children's Center (MCC). MCC is by far one of the best day-cares in the area. We've had the opportunity to temporarily send our 2-year old son to number of the larger day care facilities available locally. The difference between these and MCC is night and day. Our son went from being absolutely terrified of going to day-care; refusing to eat or sleep while he was there. To being utterly content and refusing to leave day-care once he started attending MCC. This was not habituation, he was never comfortable at the other local day-cares even after weeks. And he was comfortable at MCC by the 2nd day he was there. And even should we settle for poorer facility, it's unlikely there will be any openings. MCC closure will only add to the already long wait-lists. The thought that MCC may no longer available for our son us with dread. So, we implore you to consider deeply before proceeding with the closure.
