Dear City Council members, Thank you for supporting the Menlo Park Senior Center and the dedicated staff who continue to serve the seniors through this difficult time. With reduced staff and limited resources, Menlo Park Senior Center in cooperation with instructors from Foothill College's Community Based Adaptive Learning program, has been able to creatively provide support to the East Menlo Park and Bell Haven community of seniors since the "shelter in place" edict happened. Though Foothill instructors have been unable to conduct our nine classes "face-to-face" since the middle of March, instructors have found a way to continue contact with Senior Center patrons by either emailing* "homework", assembling "art project bags" or Zooming classes (please see attachments). (*Since the vast majority of students do not have computers, instructors email the weekly homework lessons to Avideh and Airel who assemble and distribute all the materials to students) As a hub of activity as well as a "home away from home", staff and instructors view the Senior Center as a vital "life-line" to the older adults who live in this community. In the months and years to come, we hope that support and funding the for staff and the work of the MPSC will continue as we look forward to building and nurturing this valuable partnership.
