Climate Budget 2020/2021: Don't reduce it!

City Council— I'm writing this to urge you to not cut the sustainability budget by any amount for the upcoming year. It's imperative that we have adequate funding to take action on whatever climate-related issues we choose to deal with (and the list of possibilities is endless :/). Menlo Park sets an example for cities and towns across the nation with our climate action policy. As a young adult and lifelong Menlo Park resident, I can say that this is incredibly important to me. I will grow up to live with the consequences and precedent of whatever action we take now, and currently, that future looks pretty grim— but Menlo Park, my little city, my home, has the power to set off a positive trend towards a brighter future. This is why it's so, so necessary that Menlo Park uses whatever resources we have to set the precedent for other cities and create aggressive climate policy. Whether those $400,000 go towards electric car charging or another initiative, it's important that we use that money towards climate programs. So please, don't cut the budget.
