As a bike commuter and advocate for safe streets for all of us, I applaud your choice to keep the new bike lanes on Middle Ave. One thing that really stood out to me watching this whole process unfold is that we have some community building work to do. I encourage the council to lean into the public librarys programming to maybe host a series of community building conversations. Seeing neighbors say they are afraid to leave their house because an unfamiliar car (likely belonging to someone in this community) is parked on a public right of way close to their house, seeing cars park in bike lanes (on top of the bike paint) because they value their convenience over others safety, and seeing cars speed past kids on bikes, seeing bikes not stop at crosswalks...
We seem to each be out for our own selves and no one else - and that is not an ideally functioning community. There is a lot of new housing in the pipeline. It would be great if we started the new community building now to help ease the crunch of many new friends.
