Good morning,
I can’t understand why you are still considering this housing when it is so unpopular with the citizens of Menlo Park.
My guess is the people supporting this don’t live in the downtown area. We can’t sustain any more traffic. This traffic will affect both Palo Alto and Redwood City and Oak Grove will be like Willow Road.
Yet you are also considering housing there.
I honestly can’t understand why you don’t see the damage that this will cause.
The police do not patrol downtown. People sail through stop signs. My stepmother was hit by a car by Draeger’s last year.
The city is fortunate she didn’t choose to sue. It happened in the street, not the parking lot (which by the way is always crowded) so yes you were liable. But we love Menlo Park.
In 61 years I have never, ever heard of rents going down significantly in Menlo Park. What you consider “affordable” is not affordable to the poor (who continue to grow poorer thanks to Mad King Don).
Please consider this other options. Not only would this housing ruin the charm of downtown, but it would increase traffic dangerously. One already takes their life in their hands when walking downtown.
Frankly, I am ashamed of the leadership in this city for continuing to support something that the citizens do not want. It should not take a costly campaign to stop this project. Most people who own houses downtown paid over 1 million for their homes. Do you think they want people parking in front of their houses?
The homeless population has tripled since February. Do you think that unaffordable “affordable” housing will help these folks? It won’t because it isn’t really affordable to the poor.
Please think about the long term damage this project will cause. Please consider the charm of downtown.
Please don’t build this housing. Most of the businesses don’t want it and I don’t know one person who lives in the downtown area that does. We should not have to campaign against this. If the citizens say no thank you … you should too. Is Menlo Park ruled by democracy or dictatorship?
We said no. The businesses We hope that the people we elect will listen to us.
Sincerely,
N.P. Davenport
