Dear Menlo Park City Staff and Council: If city wide equity and a healthy community are guiding principles for the proposed budget cuts then we do have a problem. A cut that would mean closure of the Onetta Harris Community Center and the Belle Haven Child Development Center is neither equitable or healthy. Entire families in the Belle Haven Community will be devastated by such a move. Interesting however is the fact that there was no mention of cuts or closure of the family centers in the Burgess/Arrillaga complex. As challenging as this budget cutting business is I am hoping and praying that the City Council will send these budget recommendations back to the staff with a crystal clear definition of ‘equitable & healthy’ and with an additional note that says ‘hands off the senior center too’. -- Rev.
