Dear City Council, I'm writing this to you to urge you to not cut the sustainability budget by any amount for the upcoming year. It's imperative that we keep funding toward programs that help people take action on climate-related issues we have to deal with. As a youth of color in the city of East Palo Alto I see the worsening effects of climate change on my city and community. Menlo Park sets an example for cities and towns across the nation with our climate action policy. As a youth and a Menlo Park resident, I can say that this is incredibly important to me and the well-being of my future. You have the power right now to do something towards positive action toward the climate crisis. I urge you to not cut the climate budget and invest it towards other programs that take action towards climate change. I will grow up to live with the consequences and precedent of whatever action we take now, and currently, that future looks pretty grim. It's so necessary that Menlo Park uses whatever resources we have to set a precedent for other cities and create aggressive climate policy. Whether those $400K go towards electric car charging or another initiative it should go towards climate programs. So please, don't cut the budget. I urge you as a youth of color to please listen and move forward to positive investment towards climate programs that'll protect the people.
