Dear City Council members, I'd like to underscore council member Ray Mueller's brilliant idea (and I do not mean that ironically). I have never served on the city council, but as a retired public high school teacher and former department chairperson, I know that it is difficult to make decisions which may have a deleterious effect on some groups to which one has loyalty. In pondering how to balance the budget and plan for a perhaps dim financial future for Menlo Park, you on the city council represent the citizens of our city. Yet you cannot help but care also about the folks who work for us. Mr. Mueller's idea of bringing in some "economic experts" to look with experienced eyes at the budget problems seems to me a win-win. Not only will you have five good brains working on a problem -- but you might add four or five more. And although you have all been elected on the basis of your own good ideas for Menlo Park, additional educated thoughts add a bonus.
