I would love the council to seriously consider closing Santa Cruz to traffic permanently. Of course this would require planning and discussions about parking and safe bike routes, etc. A pedestrian only street would ENCOURAGE much more shop traffic in the long run. I know from personal experience that events like the Halloween walk, encouraging kids (and their parents) to step into each store is great. I gained several local businesses on my short list this way. Had it not been for the trick or treating, I never would have walked in. Not sure that NOW is a good time, but it is definitely a great long-term goal.
