Dear Members of the City Council, I write on behalf of those with physical challenges and disabilities to strongly to encourage you to authorize the city’s outdoor pools to reopen consistent with social distancing and county guidelines. For those people like me, physically disabled since childhood, and those simply facing the physical challenges of old age, the pools provide a critical and irreplaceable mechanism for avoiding a spiral of de-conditioning that results in chronic pain and reduced capacity to accomplish common physical and social tasks. The water in the pools has the unique ability to support much of your body weight while you do low impact exercise across as many of your limbs and muscles as you are capable.
