Urgent Safety Concern – Hazardous Speed Bumps in Middle Avenue Bike Lanes

Dear City Council Members,

I just drove on Middle Avenue and was appalled to see the new speed bumps
the city installed directly in the bike lanes. This design is extremely
hazardous.

Speed bumps in bike lanes pose a serious risk to all cyclists, but
especially to children on bikes and scooters, who are less aware of road
dangers and more vulnerable to accidents. These bumps could easily cause
falls and serious injuries.

I urge the Council to act immediately to remove these speed bumps/tables
from the bike lanes. If the goal is to keep cars from veering into bike
lanes to avoid bumps in car lanes, a safer solution would be to install
pylons or barriers—just as Palo Alto has successfully done.

Please don’t wait until a child ends up in the emergency room to fix this
unsafe design.

Sincerely,Sincerely,

Christine Arnould, 7 Sunset Ln, Menlo Park, CA 94025
