Burgess Park Pool Reopening

I am writing to express my interest in having the City of Meno Park re open the Burgess Park Pool for public use. The pool is a great benefit to the community and the enhancement of the lives of Menlo Park residents of all ages. It serves as an integral part of children’s programs in developing skills for swimming, at both Burgess and Bel Haven, as well as residents taking part in the activities and programs provided by Menlo Swim & Sport. As a Menlo Park resident, I am very comfortable with the programs the Menlo Swim & Sport Management will have in place to ensure the safety of all pool users. Prior to the Covid 19 shut down, Menlo Swim & Sport took extra ordinary measures to ensure the safety and sanitation of the facility. This was beyond their normal exceptional care taken in cleaning the facilities. As someone who has participated and swum at many Bay Area Pool venues, the Burgess Pool management has the BEST facility operation of any pool in the bay area. This includes sanitation, customer interface operations, facility maintenance, and pool operations. Further, residents should be allowed to choose to participate in the programs of the pool, based on the protocols for operation during the pandemic. There is a cost to the well being of residents due to the closure, both personally, as well as to the city finances. Given that Dr. Scott Morrow has cleared pools for opening with safety protocols in place, there is no reason Menlo Park should not accept the guidance from the County Heath Officer. I feel strongly that Council should vote in favor of Burgess Pool re opening given the guidelines of San Mateo Heath Officials, it will mean a lot to the well being of the residents of Menlo Park.
