Proposed budget cuts for remaining 2020 and 2021

Dear councilmembers: As a long time resident of Menlo Park I have come to appreciate the Menlo Park Library for its enrollment as part of the Peninsula Library System. The Menlo Park Library itself is small and it is not large enough to have the wide selection of material afforded by the Peninsula Library system. The Peninsula Library system allows a small library such as ours to access many resources including hardback books, ebooks, e-newspapers, CDs, and other material that would not otherwise be available if we were not part of the PLS system. I know that this is a time of severe budget constraints but for those of us who use and value our library and It’s membership in the PLS, I urge you not to constrain the library budget to such an extent that we would no longer be members of the PLS system. This is especially important in this time of COVID-19, when visiting a library to peruse our library’s collection or traveling to a more distant library is not possible. Having the e-resources available i s critical to all of us who are restricted by state and county proclamations that prohibit us traveling to distant locations. Please give additional consideration to proposed budget cuts to the library and its membership in the PLS. The library is a lifesaver in this time of COVID-19.
