To whom it may concern, It has come to my attention that there is debate as to the closing of the Onetta Harris community center. NO!! PLEASE DO NOT SHUT THE CENTER DOWN!!! This center is a vital part of the Belle Haven community and neighboring EPA homes. Our youth, adults and seniors need this local center. Without this center many families within the community will be negatively affected. My family and acquaintances have used the pool for swim lessons, enrolled in classes at the center, have held gatherings at the center, etc. It is not fair that our community would have to travel outside our area in order to continue with these events. I find it appalling that there are people who want to close the center. I am wondering if those same people have even gone to the center? Do you understand that by doing so you remove opportunities from an already oppressed group of people? What will our community have? Nothing! That will create a larger gap between the haves and have nots. Please think about who you are hurting the most . Find other ways to balance your budget. Don’t take away what little the Belle Haven (and surrounding neighborhood) community has. Thank you, Veronica Garcia Received on Tue Jun 02 2020 - 15:23:43 PDT
