Dear City Council,
I was speaking with some moms from various elementary schools and we were talking enrollment and class sizes. At Oak Knoll, classes are oversubscribed and they are turning away families that legitimately live in the district. This is obviously frustrating for parents who are now driving to two different elementary schools or choosing private school because of this. At Encinal, they are undersubscribed to the point that families are getting kicked out of their beloved Spanish immersion to even out the numbers in traditional classes. The downtown parking development will only exacerbate this issue, putting stress on an already oversubscribed school while other schools would happily welcome more kids to fulfill their programs. This location is going to put stress from an educational, traffic, parking, and financial perspective to name a few and I believe needs much more collaborative thought with community members instead of against them. We have legitimate concerns that seem to be much ignored through this process.
Thank you for listening.
