Honorable Councilmembers,
The idea was assumed that when the city remodeled and expanded the Belle
Haven pool that, like a field of dreams, if it were built they would come.
For a long list of reasons that has not yet happened. But I do believe
that with patience and dedication the full potential for Belle Haven will
be realized. But progress will be slow, yet steady. However, in the
meantime, I believe the city must subsidize the operating expenses to allow
both Belle Haven and Burgess pools to remain fully operational for the
benefit of the community. We have already explored and enumerated the many
advantages these pools and their programs bring to the community. Other
area pool programs receive subsidies and Menlo Park should be no different
until such time when it can prove to be self-supporting with its full
complement of hours of operation and programming.
Respectfully,
Sandra Bardas
