Dear Council Members,
I am writing in support of a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers in Menlo Park. I live in a HOA that employs a gardening service that still uses gasoline powered blowers. I have to plan my Wednesday around when they are here, not so much because of the noise but because of the volatile toxic fumes they emit. I can smell the fumes over 30ft away. There is crystal clear evidence that these fumes increase health problems, including hypertension and lung disease, to name a couple. They also emit pollutants of concern (named by state of CA), including hydrocarbons which contribute to ozone, carbon monoxide, benzene, formaldehyde, and more, all of which have been shown to be harmful to people and big contributors to air pollution. PLEASE institute a ban on these gas powered blowers to protect our kids, ourselves, and our environment.
