Dear Menlo Park City Council, I am reaching out to inquire whether there is a plan to rename Junipero Serra Blvd. As a Stanford grad and currently a director at Stanford Medicine, I don't feel good seeing it as I leave work. Now that I know the history of the man and what he did to Native Americans, I am convinced that this street needs to be renamed with someone who has less crime and blood on their hands. If a petition is necessary by students, staff and faculty at Stanford, I would be happy to begin the process. But given the imminent protests coming regarding this street name once Stanford reopens, I do hope it can be addressed without much ado and media. Not to mention, it makes Menlo Park look like a backward city with a street named after someone who committed genocide. I look forward to hearing your response.
