Resilient Trees for a New Climate Webinar | July 16

Dear City Council Members, I want to make sure you know about Canopy's upcoming webinar series. While our urban forests are threatened by both climate change and rapid urbanization, they’re also part of the solution. Trees — the backbone of nature in our urban areas — sequester carbon and provide many other environmental and public health benefits. We need to protect and plant more trees in our cities, but which trees, and where, and how? This webinar series will offer guidance from Bay Area experts on ways to ensure resilient urban forests, providing useful tools to decision-makers, from elected officials to city planners, arborists, tree growers, and landscape architects. Details are below and on Canopy's website https://canopy.org/more-trees-please/ >. Best, Natalie _______________ Natalie Brubaker Education Director Canopy http://canopy.org/ > natalie_at_(domainremoved) 650-964-6110 ext. 6 Out of office on Thursdays Ways to find peace in the urban forest https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Finding-Peace-in-the-Urban-Forest.html?soid=1101960549697&aid=lco3IXOzJ9E > [ https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=1AXhJvD7K_2UDGBfPrI09W5m7DJAbVS4j&revid=0B3_0eCe-soQ3eWJlMnZvK1ZMeVhRSVdGVzNZWkEydGl0UjdFPQ ] https://canopy.org/ > [Facebook] http://www.facebook.com/pages/Palo-Alto-CA/Canopy/55432333878 > [Twitter] https://twitter.com/CanopyTrees > [Flickr] http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopy/sets > [Great Nonprofits] http://greatnonprofits.org/reviews/profile2/canopy > [Guidestar] http://www2.guidestar.org/organizations/01-0565752/canopy-trees-palo-alto.aspx > [Youtube] http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpreByf5mJ18Qh1VOc-hiiw > [ http://r20.rs6.net/on.jsp?ca=51722f25-5f6a-4508-80d7-9029c2a18294&a=1101960549697&c=da70cca0-e8bc-11e6-8f79-d4ae529a848a&ch=da800ee0-e8bc-11e6-8f79-d4ae529a848a ] [ https://files.constantcontact.com/14597f19001/307ae05d-7a04-487a-8ea5-2627e84397e7.jpg ] http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0018q7MVO8kzgZLa1tM43GQ-eO2tRV9MmgR9dieUwq5azMoogTVaHO-OtwQU8czBX-cMYMoLYRxlIv73Jl81EFbfmIP6jDH9xwUH7uk3tmuNa8zgQGS8BPV5nMhQ--nQjm_cY3qpXClCVWa7rWuC-8pAYNar5jxPSMfT2btzeK7ZIo=&c=Kn-cIkz-k63XyHSwwKV5X1JgyA2yeHx9rYMeeBoEWUup_I5gtI1UZg ==&ch=v5_z8eN_WdrxuDwg-gX6_WldoAGNmtZ8naxu6y784-96TzFHIFco6A==> While our urban forests are threatened by both climate change and rapid urbanization, they're also part of the solution. How can we ensure a resilient urban forest for the long term? Planting more trees is a solution, but they must be trees that will survive. In this webinar, learn about the impending ramifications of climate change for the current palette of Bay Area trees and the advantage of turning to warmer city counterparts for species selection. Find out why a diversity of oak and native species can lead to long-term resilience and why this resilience matters for ecosystem and public health. Certified Arborists will earn 1.5 ISA CEUs upon completion.
