Dear Menlo Park City Council members, I’m writing regarding the recent closure of Santa Cruz Avenue. Since its inception, I have noticed an even stronger falling off of foot traffic past our location. In addition, there are several cars making u-turns in the middle of the intersection, seemingly in frustration due to the confusing traffic barriers. The restaurants already had impacted the parking with their outside dining areas. This is an extremely concerning situation. While I appreciate that this may have seemed like a good idea at the time, it seems a recipe for disaster in the long term. The situation is so confusing that I worry that people will write off Menlo Park as just too much hassle to deal with. Please remedy this situation by removing the barriers as soon as possible. Scattered tables and chairs on a hot asphalt street are not very appealing. Please allow our clients to drive to Santa Cruz Avenue without the need of a local guide to explain how to navigate our main thoroughfare. Unsightly barricades combined with an increasing number of empty storefronts, dumpsters and port-a-potties paints a very bleak picture of Menlo Park. This business district feels as if it has been cut off, and that is a situation we can ill afford, particularly now.
