Greetings,
My wife and I support the annexation of our neighbors literally across the street from us. I’d like to highlight one reason in particular, the ability to reduce bicyclist risk on SCA - a designated class III bike route. If I recall correctly, it’s also a "safe route to school.” I love what Menlo Park has done to support safe cycling including the recent Middle Ave. improvements. I would like to see the annexation negotiation (with the county) result in 4 way stop at the SCA, Oak Dell & Sharon intersection which one Oak Knoll parent calls “The Death Corner.” Every week I see drivers taking stupid risks at that intersection and I was once broadsided by a car traveling too fast on SCA to make the right turn onto Oak Dell. I feel it’s only a matter of time before a bad bicycle accident occurs there (which of course affects the Vision Zero goal). Also most pedestrians cross SCA at Sharon (to/from Oak Dell) so an elevated crosswalk would be desireable.
An elevated crosswalk at Crocus/Cardinal Ct. would help reduce speeding in an area where there are many new young families. BTW NACTO guidelines support a 15 - 20 MPH speed limit on streets configured like SCA .
Best,
Nate & Andrea
