Dear Counterpart Organizations and Government Supporters and Partners,
First, Happy Thanksgiving and I wish you a restful and happy holiday season. We thank you for your service to your community and for your support of disaster preparedness.
The Nov 27 and Dec 25 MPC Ready monthly meetings have been replaced with a special Dec 11 @ 10 a.m. Community Meeting and BBQ with A.D.A.P.T. to celebrate Tom Prussing. Tom was also instrumental in MPC Ready's formation. Without him, we wouldn't be here today. Those who know Tom are cordially invited to the 11th Celebration., Please see the below details.
MPC Ready and A.D.A.P.T. take a neighborhood-based approach to building disaster preparedness. We follow national policies, research, and best practice models. People, not plans in a binder, are key to a community's resilience following a disaster. Organized neighborhoods are proven to fare better. They also can supply vital and accurate communication information much quicker to the designated local government incident commander. I was delighted to recently participate in the first Atherton A.D.A.P.T.-Police Communication drill and MPC Ready plans to start this vital tradition too.
Important Research and Standards
National policy already stressed the importance of a government-community partnership for disaster preparedness. The book, Building Resilience: Social Capital in Post-Disaster Recovery by Daniel P. Aldrich gives compelling evidence for the A.D.A.P.T., MPC Ready, Los Altos/Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, etc. approaches to building organized neighborhoods. Lucien G. Canton's 2020 book Emergency Management: Concepts and Strategies for Effective Programs (Second Edition) is especially useful for those wanting to be more informed on this topic. Finally, the National Fire Protection Association's NPFA 1600 Standard on Continuity, Emergency and Crisis Management is a widely endorsed, voluntary standard for Emergency Management programs. NFPA is also the basis for the Emergency Management Program credentialing process.
MPC Ready will resume our monthly meetings in January 2022.
Please see the below details for how to register for the Dec 11th meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. We thank the Town of Atherton Police Department for hosting this wonderful celebration of Tom Prussing and his work in the community. Please attend if at all possible!
Warmly,
Lynne Bramlett

Communications Drill
Thank you to everyone who participated in last month's communications drill! It was a great demonstration of how FRS and ham radios can be used to contact emergency responders if phone lines are down.
