Dear Councilmembers,
A few thoughts I've been mulling over lately and one brand new because of an email.
1. I support the decision for the independence of the redistricting commission. They don't need the fingers of elected (and potentially re-elected) folks with obvious conflicts messing with boundaries chosen by a citizen commission.
2. As traffic begins to pick back up, we have to step up enforcement to go with it. I'm seeing some really bad driver behavior as people are still trying to pretend you can get around town in a car as quickly as you could a year ago. I would love to see more enforcement for speed during the prime school commute times. The way I see cars driving, a tragedy is only a matter of time. Speed and inattentiveness will be critical factors when that happens.
3. Why don't we have more cops on bikes? It would make it easier for them to be in the places where bikes and cars struggle and they can begin the process of guiding both groups into safer practices.
Enforcement should maybe sometimes look like education. That's the most useful form. Tickets can come later. Pull them over with the kids in the car and explain how their actions put others at risk. The kids will take over from there.
Lastly, Thanks for all the time and effort you put into the running of our city. It's a life consuming job and we should all appreciate the work you're doing to make our town better and safer for everyone.
Thanks!
Jacqui Cebrian
