Mayor Combs and City Council Members,
I went to several City Council Meetings. Just because it seems you don’t want to go back and refile with State odf California on your affordable housing plan doesn’t mean that your original decision not to include exiting Civic Center sites was a good one!
You seem entrenched in the existing parking lot plan; have steamrolled over other viable options, moved forward w RFP all because the City Planner and the woman ( position unclear to me) who filed the plan with the State don’t want to refile!!!! It’s a bad idea and according to other knowledgeable people you have grossly underestimated the infrastructure requirements and time to restore downtown with sufficient parking and viability for business owners and community.
I support more affordable housing in Menlo Park. In the right locations, it will strengthen our community.
But our community is built around a shared downtown — and the downtown depends on the public parking plazas. Repurposing those plazas would be a once-in-a-generation decision with extreme consequences.
On this decision, I trust the people of Menlo Park to do whats best for the town in which they live.
I therefore urge you to adopt the Downtown Parking Plazas Ordinance, giving residents the right to vote on the future of their downtown.
Thank you for your service in representing the people of Menlo. Please, I urge you to not be in ‘group think’ on this critical decision. I did not feel the council was listening.
