Downtown Parking Plazas

Dear Mayor Combs and City Council Members,

As a dedicated local Realtor, I am deeply passionate about our community
and the issues that affect its residents. It is with this concern that I
address the matter of affordable housing in Menlo Park.

Having personally felt the impact of high housing costs, including the
reality of two my own children choosing to reside in other more affordable
states, I wholeheartedly support the development of affordable housing. I
champion the benefits of a diverse community and recognize the crucial need
for accessible housing options.

While I share in the collective goal of addressing housing affordability, I
must express my firm opposition to the development of housing in the
downtown Menlo Park parking plazas. These plazas are a cornerstone of our
community, serving not only local residents but also drawing in visitors
from neighboring areas who appreciate the unique array of small businesses
and services.

The debate surrounding this issue has been contentious, with voices from
various backgrounds weighing in. However, it is essential to remember that
the opinions of non-residents do not hold the same weight as those of the
individuals who call Menlo Park home. In light of the significant impact
and irreversible nature that a decision of this magnitude will have on the
character of our community, I implore you to entrust this decision to the
people of Menlo Park by enacting the Downtown Parking Plazas ordinance.

Please prioritize the voices of our residents above all else and uphold the
integrity and vibrancy of our beloved downtown area.

Sincerely,

Carol Carnevale
