Dear City Council and Staff,
Thank you for your dedication to our city. I am writing on behalf of Menlo Together and our partners, Housing Leadership Council to share our support for new homes downtown and to urge you to request a study of the impacts of the proposed measure per election code 9212. Please find attached:
1.
A subset of names and comments from the 832 people who have taken action in support of the once-in-a-generation to build new affordable homes on city-owned land, near transit, services, parks, and highly rated public schools, in downtown Menlo Park.
1.
A letter, urging you to order an election code 9212 with additional questions that will inform the city council’s (and voters’) decision of whether or not to adopt the measure. Since election code 9212 sets out a 30 day timeframe, City Council can consider phasing certain questions to be studied first, with the rest to be studied soon afterwards.
Thank you again for your service. As encouragement, we offer you a sampling of the comments from Menlo Park residents:
"Pls I want one for my family I apply 2014 I am still waiting”
“Low income residents, like me, are desperate for affordable housing."
"Im a long time Menlo Park resident who supports more housing downtown."
"I support turning parking lots into housing. We have too many vacancies in storefronts downtown. We need more young families moving in. We have so many parking lots, and they are an eyesore. Lets add people and homes instead. It will make our downtown happy and vibrant and alive.”
Thank you,
Karen Grove, on behalf of Menlo Together and Housing Leadership Council
