Hello Menlo Park City Council,
Please continue with your bold and thoughtful planning for affordable homes
on the downtown parking lots. We all benefit when local employees, young
families, & teachers can afford to live here. Affordable homes help our
community stay housed, reducing local homelessness and allowing more of our
children, working families, and seniors to stay here.
I work in Menlo Park and am lucky to live closeby in Palo Alto. Living
nearby my work saves me time in commuting, allows me to bike to work, and
generally makes me feel more integrated in the community. One of my team
members lives in a BMR unit in downtown Menlo Park and she raves about how
she is able to live close as well.
Palo Alto is also proceeding with plans for affordable housing on our
downtown lots and, similar to Menlo Park, has a reasonable plan to balance
the need for replacement parking for the surrounding businesses and a
unique and exciting opportunity to build hundreds of affordable homes near
downtown jobs, businesses and transit.
