Mayor Combs and City Council,
I enthusiastically support the Downtown Parking Plazas Citizens’ Initiative. Every meeting I have been to and spoken at has FAR MORE people in favor of not building on the downtown parking lots. Menlo Park residents have gone to great lengths to prove this by getting over 3440 signatures to prove we are passionate about not building in the downtown and that at the very least we would like to be the ones that make the decision to repurpose the parking lots by putting it to a vote.
Menlo Park’s downtown, depends on the access provided by the parking plazas. A decision to repurpose those lots should be made by the residents who use them - not by outside consultants. Consultabts that have, let’s face it, already put forth a bias to make those parking lots into housing.
Whether Council adopts the ordinance outright, places it on the November ballot, or calls a special election, it will be a great day for democracy in Menlo Park.
Thank you,
Carl T
