Re: Hooray for the Citizens’ Initiative!

Mayor Combs and City Council,

I am writing to state my unequivocal support for the Downtown Parking
Plazas Citizens’ Initiative.

Although my residence is in Redwood City, nearly all of my day-to-day life
is rooted in Menlo Park. My professional network, community engagements,
and the majority of the services I use are centered in your downtown. Menlo
Park is where I conduct my business and where I spend my time, and reliable
access to downtown parking is not optional—it is essential.

The parking plazas are foundational to the health and functionality of
downtown. Any attempt to eliminate or repurpose these lots should be
decided directly by the people who rely on them, not by consultants who
have no stake in the consequences. The community deserves a transparent,
voter-driven decision—not a top-down directive.

Whether the Council adopts the ordinance, places it on the November ballot,
or calls a special election, moving this initiative forward will
demonstrate a genuine commitment to democratic choice in Menlo Park.

Thank you for taking this responsibility seriously.
