Dear Mayor Combs and City Council,
I enthusiastically support the Downtown Parking Plazas Citizens’ Initiative.Menlo Park’s downtown, quite simply, depends on the access provided by the parking plazas. Case in point: I have a standing hair appointment each Wednesday afternoon at a salon that utilizes these parking lots (this one in particular is behind Amicis) so I am very familiar with them. And every week my caregiver (I am an elderly resident who does not drive anymore) has to drive around the lot at least twice to find a parking spot as they are all full.
A decision to repurpose those lots should be made by the residents who use them - not by outside consultants.Whether Council adopts the ordinance outright, places it on the November ballot, or calls a special election, it will be a great day for democracy in Menlo Park.
