Hi Mayor Combs and Council Members:
An article caught my eye yesterday appearing on the front page of the DAILY JOURNAL newspaper. It was entitled "Celebrating 100", a copy of which is attached.
As Menlo Parks 100 year anniversary is quickly coming up in 2027, it may be well to begin the PLANNING PROCESS next year. A few years ago, Jym Clendenin suggested inviting key members of the community to form a Centennial Planning Committee, consisting of persons from various entities, such as
1- City of Menlo Park2- Fire District3- Sanitary District4- History Association5- Downtown Merchants group
and others. The project will need an enthusiastic CHAMPION who can help make this a very special YEAR LONG celebration. Thus you may wish to start a file - dedicated to this topic and appoint someone to serve on the Committee.
Fortunately there are many groups that have celebrated their 100 year anniversary on the Peninsula from which we may be able to draw ideas, vendors and resources to evaluate what works, what doesnt work and how best to allocate budgeted funds.
With so much going on in the world that is distressing, its wonderful to have something positive to look forward to.
