Dear Councilmembers,
It's exciting to see plans for the Middle Ave undercrossing moving forward. To get the most bang for all the bucks going into this project, I urge you to put Middle Ave bike lanes on your priority list in the work plan that you are scheduled to approve this evening.
We have a wonderful opportunity here: With the new Stanford development going in, current residents are notably anxious about an influx of cars on ECR and increased congestion. We can take this concrete step towards the Climate Action Plan's goals of reducing car trips by making Middle an attractive route. And residents on Middle have been reporting serious safety issues with the current street layout for some time now. Here's a chance to address all of these issues.
The success of the Oak Grove bike route shows that when the city puts the energy and funds towards bike infrastructure, people of all ages will use it. Your continued efforts to find ways to improve the city in budget-conscious ways are much appreciated.
