Hello Mayor and City Council Members,
My name is Kristen Leep and I have lived in Menlo Park for more than 35
years and I have been a member of the Junior League of Palo Alto • Mid
Peninsula for 7 years.
The Junior League provides valuable services to residents of the city of
Menlo Park. We volunteer and raise funds for HIP Housing, There With Care,
Hope’s Corner, and Project Mindfulness, organizations that provide
essential services to people in Menlo Park and the surrounding areas.
For over 50 years, the Gatehouse at 555 Ravenswood Ave, has been an
invaluable component of the work we do. We have used the space for meetings
to plan our work, events to support and execute our work, and fundraisers
to support the organizations we donate to.
During this time, we have been excellent stewards of the historic gem,
keeping it in tip-top shape. It appears that it will soon need $200,000 of
repairs. If we are granted a ten year lease, we are ready to invest our
money to help this valuable, historic property maintain its place in Menlo
Park’s present-day.
A ten year lease will also allow us to continue to provide valuable
services to Menlo Park residents. I personally live in a below market rate
apartment that is managed by HIP Housing. That means that I volunteer and
fundraise with the Junior League, and also benefit from our work.
Please give us the ten year least we are asking for. Thank you so much!
