Greetings to our Councilmembers,
I was struck by the behavior of many young local cyclists I noticed about 4 PM today at the location in question. The 3 attached video clips, lasting 20 seconds in total, show just some examples of the cycle safety behavior there.
Did our Transportation Commission anticipate such potentially unsafe behavior before the Council approved the street changes that seem to have led to it? Is there a need to improve this situation?
We may guess the root cause of the behavior is the new street design and/or closure rather than the cyclists’ disregard for the stop signs however we might wish otherwise.
Whatever the cause it looks like it’s at least a serious Downtown safety matter.
I encourage each of you to at least consider that possibility.
