Dear Councilmembers,
I urge you to direct Staff to pursue finalizing the design of the Middle
Avenue
Pedestrian and Bicycle Rail Crossing project, i.e., get the project shovel
ready while continuing to seek additional funding for the gap.
I reside in Linfield Oaks and usually travel into downtown Menlo Park on
foot or by bike. Its more efficient and less stressful than driving. Even
so, the Ravenswood ECR crossing is a heavily trafficked area, and having an
alternative to crossing Ravenswood at Alma would surely ease the bottleneck
for drivers and be safer and more efficient for bike/pedestrian traffic.
We also need to be planning ahead to accommodate our new neighbors in D3
with new homes coming to the Parkline and USGS sites. We should be doing
all we can to reduce VMT.
Having a Middle Ave tunnel would make traveling on foot or by bike an
attractive alternative to driving downtown to shop or dine, get kids safely
to school, or go to a medical appointment.
I believe its the kind of investment that will pay off in the long run.
Regards,
Katherine Dumont
