Public Comment for Menlo Park City Council Meeting 2/24/2026 on Agenda ITEM I-2

Good evening, Mayor and Council Members. My name is Nicholas Pataki, a
resident of Belle Haven, and Im here to speak in support of the proposed
bicycle lane on Pierce Road.

I strongly support the installation of this bicycle lane. Pierce Road is an
important route for cyclists, especially for those accessing the US 101
Ringwood overcrossing, and this improvement is long overdue.

I have three requests regarding the implementation of this project.

First, I urge the city to install physical barriers—whether bollards,
flexible posts, or other protective elements—to create a truly protected
bike lane separated from vehicle traffic. A painted stripe alone wont
provide the safety and protection our cyclists need.

Second, I ask that the bicycle lane be placed on the west side of Pierce
Road. This location would help address a persistent problem weve been
facing: illegal dumping along the highway sound wall. I hope that placing
active bicycle infrastructure there will naturally discourage people from
using that area as a dumping ground.

Third, since were undertaking this improvement along the highway sound
wall, I ask that the city incorporate additional tree plantings. This would
serve the dual purpose of beautifying the street and provide additional
sound buffering for the neighborhood.

Thank you for considering these requests. I appreciate the citys
commitment to improving bicycle infrastructure and look forward to seeing
this project completed.
