My name is Shontelle Watkins, and I am a Belle Haven resident.
I’m here to express my concerns about the proposed bike lane on Pierce
Road. Right now, parking in our neighborhood is already very limited, and
Pierce Road plays an important role in providing space for residents and
visitors.
With the new affordable housing project at 335–355 Pierce Road and the
activity at the Boys & Girls Club, the need for parking is only going to
increase. If parking is reduced, people will still need somewhere to go—and
that can lead to blocked driveways and unsafe situations.
I understand the importance of bike safety, but this plan does not reflect
the current reality of our community.
Instead, I ask the City to consider solutions like adding a parking garage,
having exceptions for parking on weekends on Pierce, studying the parking
impact first, and exploring bike routes that don’t remove essential parking.
Please take a closer look at how this will affect residents before moving
forward.
