Dear City Council,
My name is Shontelle Watkins, and I am a Belle Haven resident. I’m here to
share concerns and suggestions about how the pool can better serve our
community.
We truly value having a pool in Belle Haven, and we want to see it thrive
as a space that is welcoming and accessible for all residents. However, at
this time, the current hours, access, and programming do not fully meet the
needs of working families, youth, and seniors.
I understand the pool operates under a hybrid model with an outside
operator. With that in mind, I hope the City continues to closely monitor
operations and ensure that services and programming truly reflect the needs
of the community.
I would also like to gently raise concerns about the senior program.
Seniors deserve respectful, consistent, and high-quality care. There has
been community feedback indicating that improvements are needed, including
stronger staff training and oversight to better support them.
We also ask the City to consider expanding hours, improving programs for
youth and seniors, increasing affordability, and making information more
accessible so families can better participate.
Although I’m not able to attend in person, I want to emphasize that online
public comments still matter, and I hope all community voices continue to
be heard and considered.
