Honorable Mayor Nash and Council Members,
Effective June 3, 2016, a full sister city agreement between the two world class cities of Menlo Park, CA and Galway, Ireland was signed by Menlo Park Mayor Rich Cline and Galway Mayor Frank Fahy.
With so much going on in the world, it’s wonderful to have something to celebrate. This year marks 10 years of a very special commitment of two world class cities to commit to being Sister Cities.
In planning ahead, we’d like to invite a delegation from Galway, Ireland to Menlo Park, including former Mayor Frank Fahy who signed the historic Sister City Agreement with former Menlo Park Mayor, Richard Cline.
Similarly in 2013 an initial Friendship Agreement was signed by Menlo Park Mayor Peter Ohtaki and Galway Mayor Padraig Conneely. Mayor Conneely could also be cordially invited.
Diplomacy, friendship and being respectful of another’s values, cultural practices and at the same time mutual areas of common interest are important ways to encourage and foster peace across international boundaries.
Kindly advise if this is acceptable to you? If so, housing, transportation and other arrangements can be made. Perhaps a Proclamation can also be prepared to be presented at a June 2026 City Council meeting.
Respectfully, Jim Lewis
