Public Comment - Eduardo Lopez Hernandez for EQC

Hello City Council,

I enthusiastically recommend Eduardo Lopez Hernandez for the Environmental
Quality Commission (EQC) position. As a current EQC member, trusted
community representative and dedicated social worker with deep ties to the
Belle Haven neighborhood, Eduardo has consistently demonstrated an
unwavering commitment to advocating for quality of life—particularly
environmental sustainability—and empowering residents to address systemic
challenges.

Eduardo serves as the primary voice for Belle Haven residents in matters
impacting their well-being, from environmental concerns to broader
community issues. His work with the Belle Haven Community Center (BHCC) has
positioned him as a central figure in amplifying resident concerns to local
stakeholders. Many residents turn to Eduardo for guidance on navigating
complex issues, and his ability to translate their collective needs into
actionable solutions has made him an indispensable advocate. Notably, his
recent petition efforts and ongoing collaboration with the City to resolve
BHCC concerns have highlighted his capacity to represent hundreds of voices
in a way that resonates with both community and institutional priorities.

As a social worker, Eduardo’s expertise lies in his ability to navigate
intricate systems and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to address the
root causes of social issues. His work bridges environmental science,
public health, and policy, enabling him to propose holistic strategies that
balance ecological sustainability with the human needs of residents. For
example, when Eduardo approaches the City with an issue as part of the
EQC—whether related to green spaces, air quality, or housing—he does so not
only as an advocate for Belle Haven but as a synthesizer of data and
perspectives that reflect the community’s lived experiences. This unique
skill set allows him to propose solutions that harmonize resident
priorities with municipal capabilities, ensuring equitable outcomes.

For the above-reasons, I fully support Eduardo continuing his tenure on the
EQC.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Meredith Rohr
