Dear Council,
Thank you for your vote on item H3 last night. Sadly, I was unable to stay
up that late due to a heavy workload today. I was surprised that staff
reiterated their recommendation to try and exclude us from state housing
statutes even after the planning commission voted to allow SB79 to take
effect.
As you might know, our little family is headed to Santa Clara Law School in
the fall. We all take transit! We are on the market for a two bedroom
apartment downtown but there is no product. We will need to commute into
the transit district for the foreseeable future. This reduces our ability
to be productive at work and study for our various educational goals. If we
already lived downtown, our most precious resource, time, would be given
back to us in the most positive ways!
Sounds like we need to amend our General Plan to be more inline with our
housing goals, housing responsibilities, and meeting the housing crisis
head on. Thanks to the staff for calling this out so we can correct it.
