Hello,

I recently relocated to Menlo Park, and am getting my feet under me.

I noticed the following line in a recent staff report:

*Approximately $390,000 in budget could be released by canceling the CPS025
Sand Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation project. The Sand Hill Tunnel provides
underground access for golf carts / members at the Sharon Heights Golf and
Country Club (SHGCC) across Sand Hill Road. Although budget was previously
identified for the assessment and repair of the tunnel, the City has no
records indicating responsibility of the tunnel. The City will continue to
coordinate with SHGCC on their necessary tunnel repairs in order to enable
the City’s resurfacing of Sand Hill Road. *

This seems like the wrong approach. Sand Hill Road is the only access
point for hundreds of people who live and work around Sand Hill Circle.
Whether the City built the tunnel under Sand Hill Road or permitted SHGCC
to build the tunnel is irrelevant to the fact that resurfacing of a
road that clearly needs it -- and ensuring that the tunnel that supports a
critical portion of it is in good repair -- falls under the Citys
jurisdiction. I would argue strongly against cutting funding for this
necessary task. If this road were to become inaccessible to emergency
vehicles at any point because the tunnel / road repairs continued to be
pushed off, that is not a situation that anybody would want to be in...

Respectfully,

Jared Dunnmon
