Mayor Nash, Council, and City Staff,
I very much appreciate the renovations on Coleman Avenue. As a parent and a
Safe Routes to School volunteer, it has made a big difference for our
elementary school age children and indeed the whole community.
I know that discussion of the pilot will be coming soon, but I have gone up
and down Coleman multiple times this week and wanted to share an issue that
I keep seeing. About 90% of the times Im biking on Coleman (not just this
week) the new bike lane is blocked. Both by deliveries (USPS, UPS, Amazon)
and people who have just parked and left. Ive attached some pictures to
illustrate the issue.
Im hoping that physical protection of the bike lanes is something that can
be added in the near future. It is a real issue when cyclists, especially
children, are forced out of the bike lane and have to merge into the car
lane. As much as we try to train them through the Safe Routes program, that
is a very difficult move for the 10 and under crowd to make.
