Dear Council:
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment first in the fact that you are willing to hand over our land to developers for low and very low income housing. I would object to it even if it wasnt low income housing, but thats another subject.
Second, that you seem to be willing to stick the taxpayer with the cost of putting in the necessary parking garage(s) for this development.
I dont think we should be giving away our land for any reason. If a developer wants to build on it, they should pay for it like any other piece of property they wish to develop. They make plenty of money, if the project doesnt pencil with them purchasing the land, then too bad.
We definitely should not be financially subsidizing developers for any reason. We pay enough taxes in this city and state, we dont need to be paying more. Not everyone in this town is making huge salaries. A tax is just another burden that makes living here even more difficult all so a developer can line their pockets.
Rest assured the voters are watching. They dont want this development downtown in the first place and they definitely do not want to subsidize the developer of this project. We will be watching. This is the kind of issue that can end any chance you have of staying in office at the next election. You were elected to represent us. Giving away land and money is NOT representing us.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian Blackford
